The course is 7,147 yards long from the championship tee boxes. Jay and Carter Morrish designed the course as a challenge to the expert player, though it's also playable for the average golfer. Three to five different tee boxes are available for every hole, creating a unique experience for each player. Dramatic use of bunkers, mounds and grass swales along with water and woods provide a well-rounded golf experience for everyone. The Lantana course was designed to take advantage of the spectacular terrain and heavily wooded areas of this 1,718-acre master-planned community.
"Playing Lantana is actually like playing two different courses," Jay Morrish explains. "There are wide open spaces--almost like meadows--and there are heavily wooded holes with changes in elevation. And the high faces of the bunkers not only add to the beauty of the course, but they improve the playing experience."
About the designer:
Morrish & Associates is considered one of the world's premier golf designers and one of the top five in the nation. Some of Jay and Carter's spectacular designs include:
- Loch Lomond--Scotland (ranked among the top 10 most exclusive clubs in the world)
- Waikoloa Golf Course--Waikoloa, HI
- The Boulders--Carefree, AZ
- TPC Las Colinas--Las Colinas, TX
Jay Morrish comments on the Lantana course:
"Working with (developer) Republic Property Group on this project was a thrill," said Morrish. "They chose to locate this course on buildable land instead of flood plain, as most developers do. This allowed us to create our own design without any topographical limitations."
"One of the best things about the Lantana course is the wide corridors we included in the design," says Morrish. "Players won't see big homes just looming over the fairways. The homes are tucked away and don't detract from the overall aesthetic appeal of the course."
Signature Hole: 15th hole features an island green encircled by sparkling blue water and surrounded by a canopy of trees, sloping 165 yards downhill from the back tee to the green.
Other Unique Holes: "The 4th, 5th and 6th holes at Lantana are probably the strongest three holes of any course in the Metroplex," says Morrish. "They're very demanding and beautiful."
Practice Facilities:
Lantana's practice facility is equipped with everything a serious golfer could need--a chipping green and practice bunker as well as several target greens to help sharpen your skills.
Grasses:
Lantana features the new tifeagle greens that create a quality putting surface year-round. Fairways are tifsport and roughs tif10, providing a spectacular contrast from fairway to rough. Great care was taken in choosing the types of grasses that would give golfers the best playing conditions all year long.
